What a very sad story. Doesn't it just make your blood boil. The breeder is bad enough but just how stupid can the woman be - she obviously thought she was getting a bargain.

Why do you feel you might have been conned? You've ended up with this little beauty.

She's given up trying to contact the breeders and has now put him on a rehoming website because she doesn't know how to care/train a deaf dog

I'm really concerned about where this puppy has come from. It's so upsetting that people would con other people and treat an animal like that...I just hope I'm not being conned myself.

I'd really hate to be conned but at the same time, this poor dog needs a good home. It's such a shame that selfish people put profit before the welfare of animals.
Hope you can come to some agreement and it works out well for you and this unfortunate little guy.Let me know how you get on

Hi Baxter8

I haven't paid for the puppy yet. I'm due to visit him tomorrow...I'm just worried that the woman's story might not be true...She could be a dodgy breeder who's trying to con me

I'm really not sure how you will be able to find out the truth though really. Gut feeling I suppose.

Ten weeks is very early for her to decide that she can't cope with a deaf dog really, wouldn't have thought she would have hit too many problems yet. Although they can take longer to learn bit inhibition apparently because they do not hear the litter mates yelps of pain. It might be worth asking her why exactly she has decided he has to go...what behaviours she feels she cannot cope with?

Oh yes I see where you're coming from.

For me it's worth taking the chance of being conned - even if you are, ultimately you'll still be the winner because you'll have given this little fella the chance of a good life. Sometimes we just have to bite the bullet- what's the alternative to walk away from him?

After reading through I think there's a chance her story isn't true - but get into conversation with her and just get a feel for what she's up to - if nothing else you might unnerve her or better still shame her for what she's doing.

I really feel for you - because I sense you're already been suckered in. But hey ho in a week two you'll be showing us happy pictures of this little lad and the extra work you're having to put in because he's deaf.

I wish you lots of luck and please do let us now what you do.

Oh yes - that's right walk away from a deaf dog (or is it a "less than perfect dog") and leave it to either be PTS or palmed off to someone who has no experience at all but gets all gooey eyed about a deaf little white dog, frightens it half to death and then gets fed up with it and dumps it.

Where is your head?

It's very difficult because if she is a BYB any money you give her will just be helping to fund her lifestyle of making money from churning out puppies. It's so hard because you would be leaving the puppy to her hands....and scruffing him like that doesn't look like they are particularly kind hands......but it's the balance of helping this one pup....or refusing to fund anymore pups. Will you be able to walk away if you don't believe her story once you have seen the pup? Or just take someone huge with you snatch the pup and run! Lol

Yes - I can definitely see your point. I would hate to continue funding her if this is what she was doing.

Great to take someone with you, snatch the pup and run. I might even come up and assist! Although I'm not very brave!

Haha.

I was just thinking...if the woman wants £180 for it she could get a whole load of behavioural advise from an APDT behaviourist as well as puppy socialisation classes for that amount of money! That's the option I would be looking at if it was me!
